Hello! My name is Thomas Amos, Social Studies Instructor at the 4C Academy. In my classes, students have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures, learn how the past informs the present, and exercise their creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills.
A wide variety of life experiences inform my teaching. I graduated from Albany Technical College in 1996 and worked as network administrator until 1998, when I joined the US Navy as a satellite communications technician. My service took me all over the world, where my exposure to other cultures developed into a love of history. After my term of service ended, I returned to college, attending ASU West and GA Southwestern to obtain my degree in history education. I taught social studies at Westover High for eight years, where I was the Academic Decathlon Coach and Social Studies Department Head. I began teaching at 4C Academy in 2019.
I am married to a beautiful Canadian and we have three young children - a girl and two boys. Our family enjoys travel, hiking, gardening, and bike rides. We also have two cats, Lucy and Edmund, and two goldfish, Coral and Fireball.
I love teaching Social Studies at 4C because my technical background allows me to integrate student pathways into the history curriculum, and in turn, my history instruction teaches the students to consider the human element of technological advances.
