Mia Turner, Audio Video Technology and Film Instructor

Hello, my name is Mia Turner, and I am the Audio, Video Technology & Film (AVTF) Instructor at the Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy.

I am a proud graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production in 2019. Before transitioning into education, I spent several years working professionally in the film and television industry, gaining hands-on experience in pre-production, production, and post-production across a range of creative projects.

In 2023, I joined the 4C Academy team with a passion for bridging industry experience and classroom learning. My mission is to equip students with both the technical skills and creative confidence needed to thrive in today’s fast-evolving media landscape.

Through the AVTF pathway—part of Georgia’s Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications career cluster—students progress through three dynamic levels of growth:

  • 10th Grade: Students are introduced to the foundations of storytelling, cinematography, and editing while working toward Adobe Premiere Pro certification, an industry-recognized credential that gives them a competitive edge.

  • 11th Grade: The focus shifts to professionalism—students refine their production skills, build portfolios, and take on leadership roles in team-based projects that simulate real-world client work.

  • 12th Grade: Seniors engage in Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences, serving as in-house interns for 4C Productions or pursuing external opportunities with local media partners, applying their skills in authentic industry environments.

As an AVTF instructor, I strive to inspire the next generation of filmmakers, content creators, and visual storytellers—empowering them to transform their ideas into impact and creativity into career readiness.

Georgia is now the number one filming location in the world. The industry has a giant impact on the State’s economy.

11th and 12th Grade

ADVANCED EXPERIENCE

In 11th grade, students focus on developing a professional portfolio and demo reel to showcase their strongest work. They refine their storytelling, editing, and cinematography skills while building content that reflects both creative direction and technical mastery. This portfolio can be used for college admissions, competitions, or freelance opportunities.

WORK-BASED LEARNING

In 12th grade, qualified students may participate in Work-Based Learning (WBL) through internships that offer both in-house and external opportunities. In-house interns support 4C Productions, creating event coverage, promotional videos, and school news content that provides real-world experience in client-based videography. Students may also be placed in externships with local businesses, media companies, and school district communications teams, where they apply their AVTF skills in professional environments and gain valuable industry insight.
